Dear Editor:

In response to a recent letter, I would like to set the record straight about Assemblymember Simón Salinas. I know first-hand this man’s accomplishments for our community because I had the pleasure of working for him for the last three years. I was not asked to write this letter, but feel I must respond to Mr. Jones.

We should thank our state Assemblyman for fighting for San Benito County in Sacramento, not criticizing him for a voting record skewed by a conservative group based outside of this community. We are lucky to have someone who is articulate, compassionate and intelligent representing the 28th Assembly District. He has secured millions for Highway 25, advocated for affordable housing, helped hundreds of constituents and has assisted the city and county in various ways.

The only “record” that really counts is the approval from his constituents in this community. As a collaborator, he understands our concerns and has a reputation for providing great customer service to his constituents. Assemblymember Salinas continues to fight for the working class, senior citizens, children, people with disabilities, parents, people with low-income, teachers, police officers, firefighters, veterans and others in San Benito County. Do you know why? Because he genuinely cares about his constituents, and works hard to improve our lives – that’s the sign of a leader.

Mr. Salinas has also voted in favor of legislation to support our veterans. As a veteran, I appreciate his continued efforts to help our proud veterans from California, including my fellow comrades in San Benito County.

Like Mr. Jones said, we need someone who will represent San Benito County. We have that person today. The honorable Simón Salinas has clearly earned our support and appreciation.
