In the United States, we are fortunate to have due process, the rule of law, systematic checks and balances and the ability to remediate or offer settlements in civil and criminal matters.
Bruce Kiefert appears to possess divine, transcendent wisdom and knowledge of all the facts in the District Attorney’s office as well as a complete understanding of the political mechanics in San Benito County Government. I appreciate his mental acuity which uniquely qualifies him as judge, jury and executioner of all public matters.
However, I hope I speak for those of us tax paying mortals and citizens who are interested in accountability and public justice when I suggest that due process, though imperfect, is superior to trying cases in the press based on rumor, speculation and innuendo. Especially when the costs of executing a special recall election will be considerable.
The truth is worth waiting for and settlements are often acceptable remedies that satisfy aggrieved parties and maintain the public trust.
