A 40-year-old Tulare woman died after a skydiving accident at Quien Sabe Road and Airline Highway around 2 p.m. Saturday.

A Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office representative confirmed that the victim was Jennifer Ann McCoun, of Tulare, who is the president and CEO of the Tulare Chamber of Commerce. The office spokesman said the case is not closed and could not release the cause of death. Even when that is determined, it will be revealed only to the immediate family because there is no suspected crime involved.

Lt. Roy Iler with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that McCoun was airlifted out of the county to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and died at the hospital. Iler said it has been called an “industrial accident.”

Former Tulear chamber President Marc Limas told the Free Lance her death will leave a big hole in that area.

“It’s a huge loss for our community – she was a great person,” Limas said. “There is going to be a void in our community.”

On Saturday, an employee at Adventure Center Skydiving who answered Free Lance questions but then declined to provide a name, had reported the jumper was “fine” and was in “totally stable condition” when airlifted to the hospital. When reached Monday, a business representative denied to comment on what exactly happened during the jump.
