The win marked Anzar’s sixth straight victory, and improves the Hawks to 11-1 in the CAL, 13-5-1 overall. Anzar won the CAL crown last Friday when it silenced Gonzales by a 2-0 margin, and it will now await its seeding in next week’s Central Coast Section Division V Championships.

“Every game has to be [played] like a championship game,” Anzar head coach Carlos Flores said.

Of course, the Hawks have been playing as such during their current six-game win streak. Since falling to Gonzales 2-1 on Jan. 27, Anzar not only won its remaining six games to close out the regular season, but it did so by shutting out each of its six opponents.

The Hawks outscored the opposition 27-0 in their final six games.

Tuesday’s result was no different, as Anzar took care of York behind a two-goal halftime lead.

Stofer staked the Hawks to an early edge in the 12th minute off an assist by Lauren Bellone, while Bellone pocketed a score in the 32nd minute off an assist by Marissa Carapinha.

Anzar then tacked on three additional goals in the final 40 minutes. Alex Flores made it 3-0 in the 49th minute off a set-up pass from Hakima Hossainzadeh; Monica Medina made it 4-0 when Brianna McCain earned her first assist in the 52nd minute; while McCain made the lead more than comfortable in the 72nd minute off an assist by Stofer.

Flores said the soccer seedings and matchups will be announced on Saturday in San Jose.
