Tokyo – Team USA players and Hollister residents Omar and Jairo Solorio are powering their way to a World Cup.

Competing in the first International Power Football World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, Team USA is currently in the middle of pool play, but has already compiled a 4-0 record.

On Tuesday, Team USA opened the World Cup with a 3-0 win over England, where Omar contributed two assists in the winning effort.

On Wednesday, Team USA played three games and outscored their opponents 14-0.

In the first game against Portugal, USA threw a shutout while racking up eight goals. Jairo had 13 shots on goal in the match, and Omar added an assist.

USA followed the 8-0 romp on Portugal with a 4-0 win over Belgium, where Omar found the back of the net for his first goal of the World Cup.

In their third and final game on Wednesday, USA battled host Japan. Neither team had allowed a goal entering the match, but USA found the net twice for a 2-0 win. Omar was awarded with an assist in that game.

Still in pool play, USA will have two games Friday against France and Denmark.

France was chosen as the favorites to win the World Cup, as they have been playing under the newly-imposed international rules since the 1970s.

On Saturday, bracketed play begins, with the gold-medal game slated for Saturday evening.

The Solorio brothers, who are members of the Hollister Freewheelers, are just two of the 12-member Team USA. Other participants hail from Florida, Indiana, Arizona and Georgia, as well as two from Emeryville and San Jose.
