Settling the dust, with help from the rain, in South County
How about all that rain last week? Other than the fact that it
was too late for most folks, at least it settled the dust for all
of us. Not only was it wet, but it was cold too.
Seemed more like a late winter storm than a late spring
storm.

My apologies go out to little Ivey Hearne who was a model at the Salinas Valley Fair Hostess contest last week. I sure don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote her last name wrong in last week’s column. She is definitely a Hearne, so sorry to all the Hearne family and to little Ivey too. She was an adorable model.
Birthday wishes go out to Roberta “Aunt Nix” Oswald who will be celebrating her 80th birthday on May 6. Her family treated her to an early birthday party on April 1 by taking her and 50 of her friends and family members to a Giants vs. A’s game. Although the Giants were defeated, she did get to see Barry Bonds hit two home runs, and got to see “Happy Birthday Aunt Nix” on the jumbotron scoreboard. Roberta is a huge Giants fan so I’m sure that was a great birthday party for her. Happy Birthday Roberta and here’s wishing you many, many more.
Congratulations finally go out to Hec and Kasey Hurley on the arrival of their new baby boy, Tryan Lloyd. He was born last Thursday, April 19. Tryan weighed in at exactly 9 pounds and was 19 inches long. He is absolutely adorable and was welcomed home by his big sisters Taylor and Tatum and by big brother Twyster. After having four kids, I told them they should have named him “Done” Tryan!Â
Congratulations also go out to Shannon Mallory who was married last Saturday afternoon in Lake Tahoe. Some of those making the trip to the snowy Tahoe area to join in the celebration included Mike and Brandi Garza and Andy and Tamra Barrington.
Several birthday wishes go out to many special people who celebrated birthdays last week. Andy “Biscuit” Barrington celebrated on the 17th while Katie Donham celebrated on the 20th and Rosario Estrella celebrated on the 21st.Â
Get well wishes go out to little Meryle Eggleston who was hospitalized for a few days last week with what may have been a severe case of the stomach flu. The whole family came down with it but she couldn’t seem to get over it. She is home now and doing much better.
The Salinas Valley Fair Kickoff dinner was held last Saturday night at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Some of those attending from South County included J.W. and Candace Brewen, Ralph and Mariliee Rianda, John and Marianne Madson and Casey and Colleen Sabin. They said other than it being a little cold, it was a lot of fun. The fair season is now officially under way.
The San Benito County 4-H clubs will be hosting their annual pancake breakfast this Sunday at the Elks Lodge in Hollister. Be sure to stop by for a great breakfast.
Remember when I told you to watch out for rattlesnakes? We had a little filly get bit on the nose last week right in the barnyard in her corral. Seems that little filly is bound and determined to keep Dr. Charlie Tobias busy, but thankfully she’ll be all right. Just another warning to keep your eyes open this year.Â
Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me with any news you’d like to share at
