With spring break over, it’s back to school time for South
County kids
Now that Easter and Spring break are behind us, it’s back to
school for all South County kids. Most kids had last week off. They
sure had nice weather to hang out in. I hope you all had a nice
Easter and a relaxing spring break.

Now that Easter and Spring break are behind us, it’s back to school for all South County kids. Most kids had last week off. They sure had nice weather to hang out in. I hope you all had a nice Easter and a relaxing spring break.

Belated congratulations go out to Bitterwater Tully students Jeanine Madson, Marissa Donovan and Edwin Mendoza who all qualified for the countywide spelling bee a few weeks ago in Hollister. Jeanine ended up fourth place in the county while Marissa finished in 6th place. Way to go kids! 

A bridal shower was held last Saturday at the home of Brandi Garza in honor of Shannon Mallory. Shannon is getting married April 21st. Some of those in attendance at the shower included her Mom, Mary Ann, Brandi Garza, Sarah Schmidt, Shannon Plaskett and Hannah Eade.

The King City Riding Club hosted the Grady Lafferty Memorial Junior Rodeo last Saturday at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. It was a really good turnout with over 100 contestants entered. Congratulations to the directors, especially Stacie Johnson, Amy Johnson, Donna Booker and Willie Pantoja on producing such a fine event. They gave beautiful awards and it was a really fun, family day.

Some of those kids participating from South County included: Blaine and Blair Strohn, Craig Slibsager, Cheyenne Rey, Courtnee Bowers, Bree Groves, Bailee Nelson, Lauren and Caleb Johnson, Chase and Clay Barbree, Taylor and Tatum Hurley, Sierra Jo Sans, Dakota Stoughton, Tucker Bennett, Hannah Johnson, Brooke and Mason Rianda, Lauren Davis, Katie Harris and Callie Whitney.

Some spectators taking in the action included Kuulei Flores, Lynette Hurley, Bonnie Stoeberl, Barbara Whitney, Ed Copley and Grady Lafferty’s son, Jerry. 

Birthday wishes go out to Sierra Jo Sans who celebrated her 14th birthday last Thursday, April 5. We celebrated by going to her brothers’ baseball game, then to dinner with lots of family and friends.

     John and Susan Nino branded a few calves last Saturday at their place. Some of those helping them out included: John and J.W. Brewen, Jim Bob Wilson, Vern Scattini, Todd, Buddy and Brody Sans and Kenny, Colleen and Casey Sabin. 

J.D. and Denise Donham also branded calves at their place last Friday. 

Vern and Joann Scattini and Lynette Hurley hosted an Easter gathering at their place last Sunday. Bob and Betty Schmidt were able to make it down for a few hours. Also joining the party included Donna and Laurence Hansen, The Johnsen Family, The Sans Family, The Barrington Family, The Brewen Family, The Garza Family, The Hurley Family, The Roth Family and Nessen Schmidt, Val Bassetti, Casey Sabin and Blake Willoughby.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for those rattlesnakes right now, Linda Selleck reported seeing a three-foot-long rattlesnake in her yard last week. Donna Hansen reported that her cat got one right where she was gardening. They’re out in full force now so watch your step.
