Wet weather is welcome in South County
Wow, well we asked for some rain and boy did we get it! The El
Nino they have been talking about has finally arrived. If you’re
not loving this rain, you belong in another part of the
country.
June and Steve Rianda reported receiving an inch of rain early
on Monday morning up in Reliz Canyon. I’m sure they received way
over that by now. We were at 1.5 inches on Monday afternoon here at
home, while we had more than 2 inches over in Bitterwater. Isn’t it
beautiful? The grass already appears greener and more is in the
forecast. What a way to start the new year!

Paul and Willene Wattis took advantage of the last dry day last Saturday to brand their calves. Some of those helping out included: Dean, Nikki, Dawson and Lila Bell, Shane Higgins, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Alex and Stacey Schmidt and Bob Cofelt, just to name a few. Of course there was a delicious barbecue for everyone after the work was all done.

John Wooster branded some of his calves last Saturday as well at his home near Indian Valley. Some of those helping him out included John and J.W. Brewen, Hec and Taylor Hurley, and me, Todd and Brody.

The San Benito County Cattlewomen’s Association will be hosting its annual Pedro Party on Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. at the Tres Pinos Church Hall. You can contact Charlotte Cabral for more information. There will be lots of food, fun and prizes so it sounds like it will be a great event.

The California High School Rodeo Association, District 4, will be hosting a district rodeo in King City this weekend at the indoor arena at the fairgrounds. The kids spent last weekend rodeoing in Lincoln. Some of those participating included Blane and Blair Strohn, Courtney Bowers, and Megan and Kristy Melton. Birthday wishes go out to Katie Brewen who celebrated her 4th birthday Jan. 12. She had some friends and family members over for cake and ice cream to help her celebrate. Celebrating his 15th birthday on the Jan. 18 was Todd Sans, Jr. He celebrated by spending the weekend in Bear Valley with his sister and some friends. It was Todd and Sierra’s first time in the snow and they had a wonderful time. Sierra spent the weekend learning how to ski while Buddy learned how to snowboard. Neither of them came home with any broken bones and they already want to go again so I guess it was a successful trip.

It’s that time of year again when the census bureau is doing its surveys and this year they are in need of help in South County. There will be several positions opening up beginning in March and testing will be taking place at Bitterwater and Jefferson School sites as well as the Tres Pinos Church. For more information on testing and job availability, you can call for more information at 866-861-2010.

Have a great week, enjoy this beautiful rain and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
