Taking advantage of some warm, dry weather last week to brand some calves were the Topo Ranch, Nessen Schmidt, Mike Mallory and John and Tina Bourdet. Some of those helping out at the Topo besides the whole Topo and Mee Ranch crews were: Kenny Reed, Allan Wallace, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Wyatt Bourdet and me, Todd and Brody. Todd and Brody headed up to Hollister last Friday to help out at John Bourdet’s. A few others helping there included: John Rianda and Kyla Prunty, Stacey Schmidt, Kent Hirdes, Shane Higgins, Richie Coefield, Dr. Bert Johnson, Dan Ericson, Erik Issacson and Jim and Michelle Prewett, just to name a few. Nessen Schmidt held his branding last Saturday in conjunction with the Topo Branding, then had the after-branding party at his home. We didn’t make it to the after party but were told that it was a big one. He even had a jump house on hand for all the little kids (and some big ones) to play in as well.

School is officially back in session for all schools this week. My two older ones are happy to be back in school so they can see all their friends while Brody has been moping around for days as he would much rather stay home and work with his dad. I keep telling him he has plenty of time to do that later in life but he just won’t listen!

Birthday wishes go out to Katie Brewen who celebrated her 4th birthday on Jan. 12. She celebrated with a cake and ice cream get together with a few friends and family members that evening.

The KCHS Lady Mustangs are off to a rough start in league play this year but they hope to get back on track this week. The boys’ team is doing fairly well and the freshman team is undefeated thus far.

Hollister and South County’s favorite PBR bull rider, Brendon Clark and his girlfriend, Allison Renz, just returned home from a weekend in the Big Apple as Brendon was competing at a PBR event there. It was his first big event back in action after being sidelined for most of last year due to a serious injury. The New York event was a three head competition in which he bucked off his first one, rode his second one and almost made it to the whistle on his third one (7.6 seconds). Sounds like he is going to get right back in the mix of things this year. When Brendon wasn’t competing, he and Allison took in the sights of New York but one of their biggest highlights was getting to meet Garth Brooks who was in town for the PBR as well. They also met Jewel, Mo Bandy and Gary Allen. They returned home to Hollister late Sunday night. Brendon took off again early Tuesday morning to Colorado for another event but will be back in California on Friday for a PBR event in Sacramento this weekend. Good luck, Brendon!
