The dog days of summer have arrived in South County – the days have been long, hot and dusty. The only good thing about August is that it’s almost football season! I always look forward to the first weekend of August so I can watch the NFL Hall of Fame Ceremonies and the Hall of Fame game. Let the season begin, and go Broncos!

Birthday wishes go out to Brian “T-Bone” Palmer who celebrated his 50th birthday last week. A birthday celebration was held in his honor at his home last Saturday afternoon. A few South County folks who attended the event included Laurence and Donna Hansen, Les and Betty Sans and the Rianda family.

The Rianda family branded a few calves at Steve and June’s place in Reliz Canyon last Thursday. Some of those helping out included Wyatt Bourdet and Lacey Taliaffero, Kyla Prunty, Kent Hirdes and Todd, Buddy and Brody Sans.

I headed down to the Mid State Fair in Paso Robles again last Wednesday with the kids. They wanted to go see the Christian rock group “Skillet.” Holy cow, when they said it was Christian rock I thought it was going to be a nice, mellow rock group but they were harder rock then some of the rock bands I used to listen to as a kid! The kids thoroughly enjoyed the concert and the fair. The weather was great as it wasn’t too hot and the crowd was pretty small since it was the middle of the week.

Vern and Jo Ann Scattini spent a few days entertaining family last week. Vern’s son Todd, his wife Robin and their little boy Jack arrived back home in the states last week after spending a few years in Belgium where Todd was doing a tour of duty with the Army. They spent a few days here before they will be heading east for a year of duty in Washington, D.C. Todd is fluent in at least eight foreign languages and he will be learning another in D.C. before he heads off to Bosnia next year for another tour of duty there. Little Jack is only 4 years old and he is fluent in both English and French. It is the cutest thing seeing this little boy speak French! We got to enjoy visiting with them while they were here and we hope to be able to visit them in D.C. during spring break in April.

Vern and Jo Ann also had a great visit with Vern’s sister Susie and her husband Richard from Cupertino last Saturday afternoon. They hadn’t seen each other in almost 25 years! They enjoyed a nice lunch while looking through lots of old family photos.

Amy Lou Hall headed back to Oklahoma after a two-week visit with her friends and family here in California. She was able to attend Bob Schmidt’s 95th birthday party while she was in town.

Hope you have a great week. Try to stay cool, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
