April showers hit the South County area
As the old saying goes April showers bring May flowers! Mother
Nature has been very generous this year with all the rain we’ve
been receiving. What a year it has been. Take a drive down Hwy. 25
sometime soon and you’ll see just how pretty the green grass and
the wildflowers are.
It sure is funny how the rain differs from one area to the next.
We received about 0.80 inches from the storm on Easter while Wyatt
and Lacy Bourdet reported that they received 1.60 inches of rain.
That’s double what we got here in South County! The storm we just
had last Sunday produced a half an inch of rain at our place, while
Vern Scattini reported 0.85 inches at his place, just a few miles
down the road. We must just be in a dry spot, I guess!

Hec Hurley and J.W. Brewen headed over to Porterville last Sunday to compete in the Tulare County Cattlemen’s Association Ranch Rodeo. Congratulations to J.W. for winning the steer stopping and congratulations to Hec for winning the All-Around. Emily Brewen competed and placed in a few kids events while Sarah Brewen was the winner of the junior all-around award. They said it didn’t rain on them during the rodeo although it was very cold and windy. But right after the event was over, the skies opened up and it rained all the way home. So not only were they all celebrating their wins on the way home, but the rain as well.

Congratulations also go out to PBR bull rider, Brendon Clark, who traveled to Edmonton last weekend for a PBR event where he was the big winner for the weekend. Hopefully we’ll get to see him back in action in our area again sometime soon.

We were able to get up to Hollister last week to meet the newest Bourdet Family member. Little Braydee Bourdet is absolutely beautiful. She’s so tiny and cute, it almost makes me want another one. Ha ha!

The Salinas Rodeo Grounds will be the site of a multidistrict high school rodeo this weekend. Some local kids participating will include Blane and Blair Strohn, Megan Ford, and Megan and Kristy Melton.

The Salinas Valley Fair Kickoff Dance will be this Saturday at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. For more information, contact the Salinas Valley Fair.

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
