We sure could use a good rain out here in South County these
days. Its been cold and dry out here. Everyone’s grumbling and
talking about rain, hopefully we’ll get a good dose of wet weather
this week.
The weather did cooperate last Saturday during the King City
Little League tryouts. We spent almost all day there as Buddy tried
out in the morning, then Brody tried out later in the afternoon. It
didn’t rain, but it was cold.

Looks like King City will have some more tough teams this year as there was a lot of talent at the tryouts. There was a lot of up and coming 9 year olds that looked real good. Now that my football season is over, the boys’ baseball season is what I will be looking forward to.

John Wooster took full advantage of the dry weather last week as he branded calves twice last week. He branded two different bunches at the Crown W Ranch, one bunch on Wednesday and one on Friday. Those helping out included: Ken, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Mike Mallory, J.W. Brewen, Jo Ann Scattini, Renee Little, Wyatt Duncan and me and Todd. John made the most delicious corn beef for the crew on Friday; he is quite a cook.

Nessen Schmidt, Billy Whitney and the Peachtree crew, and Paul Wattis all took advantage of the dry weather last week as they all branded their calves last Saturday. Nessen held his annual branding party at his place after his and the Peachtree’s branding. Plenty of folks were on hand to enjoy that party.

The Bitterwater Lady Badgers basketball team played a game last Thursday afternoon against the San Lorenzo Colts 8th grade team. Since our team consists of NO 8th graders, our girls held their own and played very tough against the Colts. The score was 11-10 at the half with the Colts leading the way. In the second half, the Colts took a bigger lead, ending the game with a score of 23-13. For fun, the teams played one more quarter and the Badgers made a great comeback by scoring 5 baskets and ending the “fun” quarter with a score of 25-23. Some of those enjoying the game from the community included Jo Ann Scattini, Ed Copley and Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini.

John Henry Donham, who attends high school in Steamboat Springs, Colorado (who I still haven’t converted into a Broncos fan yet …), recently participated in a 12.5 KM Biathlon. John, a first year member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Biathlon team, completed the course with 75% accuracy. His accuracy, along with his time, earned him a first place finish in the event which makes him eligible for the State Competition which will be held in February.

According to John’s mom, Denise, a biathlon involves skate-skiing cross country for approximately 3 kilometers, then shooting at a set of targets before skiing off to another set of targets. This is a timed event that is also judged on the participants accuracy. Any missed targets requires the participant to ski extra miles. Congratulations to John on such a great accomplishment.

Until next week, pray for rain, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
