Summer’s lingering in Bitterwater
We had some more Indian Summer weather last week in Bitterwater.
Temperatures reached the 90s again several days making for some
more hot, dusty days in South County. At least it was warm at the
King City High football game last Friday night. But, I am
definitely ready for some cooler weather.

The Brewen family and the Barrington family headed up to Hollister last Thursday evening for the San Benito County Fair Carcass Contest. Emily Brewen and Wacey Barrington each showed steers at the fair so they were treated to a nice dinner and awards presentation for the carcass contest. The kids’ steers each did well in the contest. Congratulations to both.
The Bitterwater Lady Badgers ended their volleyball season last Saturday on a good note at a tournament in Soledad. The girls ended up third in the tournament overall. Kasey Hurley will be hosting the Bitterwater Tully School Halloween party this Friday night at Tully Hall. The time has been changed from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. so that kids may attend the party, then, head to town to do some trick-or-treating if they feel the need for more sugar. As always, the community is invited and encouraged to attend. Bring your favorite potluck dish to share, and dress up if you like, but be sure to stop by and join in on the fun.
The California High School Rodeo Association, District 4, hosted a high school rodeo at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City last weekend. Congratulations to Ashley Hartwig for having two really successful rodeos the last two weekends as a rookie cowgirl. She is going to be a tough competitor in the future, way to go Ashley! The kids will compete in their next rodeo Nov. 7-9 in Paso Robles.
The King City Riding Club held its year-end awards dinner last Friday night in King City. Congratulations to all year-end winners and all those who participated in the year’s events. Hopefully the economy will pick up and the club will be able to host their annual rodeo next year.
