The San Benito County Fair is officially under way this week. Festivities kicked off last weekend with the Junior Rodeo and the Ranch Rodeo being held at Bolado Park. Congratulations to Nicole Nelson and her crew of efficient workers who produced a very successful junior rodeo. Due to the generosity of many sponsors, Nicole was able to give out beautiful buckles to event winners and really nice saddles to the all-around champions. Congratulations go to Doyle Hoskins for winning the 13-17 All-Around Cowboy, Cheyenne Rey for winning the 13-17 All-Around Cowgirl, Brody Sans was named 9-12 All-Around Cowboy, Hailey Stelling was the 9-12 All-Around Cowgirl, Lila Bell was the 8 & Under All-Around Cowgirl and Garrett Bourdet was named 8 & Under All-Around Cowboy.

After a sweltering day at the junior rodeo, many folks headed over to the patio at Bolado Park for a barbecue dinner and Calcutta of the teams for the following day’s Ranch Rodeo. Rodney Bianchi did a great job auctioning off the numerous teams. Some of those on hand enjoying the dinner and auction included Bob and Ann Hansen, Charlotte Cabral, Jeff and Shari Popnoe, Stan and Jamie Pura, the Bell Family, Sans Family, Brewen Family, Hurley Family, Curt, Nicole and Bailee Nelson, Wyatt and Lacey Bourdet Cynnie, Sami and Kassie O’Connor and the Sabin Family, just to name a few.

J.W. Brewen and his efficient crew produced another outstanding ranch rodeo on Sunday. Congratulations to all the winners. A few of the winners were: Part N Catch – Todd Sans and Todd Utterback, Calf Branding – Hec Hurley, Kris Regan, Anthony Pomo, Jarrod Skow, Cattle Sorting – Vern Scattini, Bob Pivetti and Tom Nino, Ranch Doctoring – Kent Hirdes, Jarrod Skow, Carlos Castillo and Mike Raine, Kids Calf Branding – David and Joseph Nino, Ladies Calf Branding – Sierra Sans and Kyla Prunty, Junior Calf Branding – Lacy Bourdett and Bailee Nelson and All-Around winners were Jarrod Skow and Kris Regan. Bitterwater Tully School will be hosting a community flu shot clinic at the end of October. The date still hasn’t been determined yet, but if you would like to be included, they do need a head count before Oct. 20. Shots offered include the flu shot, swine flu shot and pneumonia shot. Please contact either myself or the school ASAP if you’d like to take part in the clinic.

A great weekend of rodeo was followed up by a great day of football. How do you like those Broncos now? To all my Raider friends out there, whenever you’re ready to move on to a “winning” team, just give me a call. Ha ha!!

Have a great week, enjoy the fair, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
