The Board of Directors of the Hollister Homeless Task Force has elected Stacy Souza and Tracie L. Cone to serve on the board. They replace task force founders Marley Holte and Ruth Kesler, who were elevated to “honorary member” status.
Souza works for the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of directors of the Chamberlain’s Children Center, where she also mentors a 9-year-old child. She volunteers for the Small Steps Program, the Hollister Downtown Association Street Festival, the HDA Farmers Market and the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
Cone, the former owner and publisher of The Pinnacle, is a candidate for the Board of Supervisors. She will serve again this year as co-chair of the Second Harvest Food Bank/Community Pantry Holiday Food Drive and was a founding member of the Hollister Gang Task Force Advisory Panel. She also worked on the Measure L Committee that successfully passed a bond for improvements at Hazel Hawkins Hospital and volunteers for the United Way.
“Hunger and homelessness should not exist in a community as generous and vibrant as ours,” Cone said. “We can end both if we work diligently at the local level.”
Kesler, a former supervisor, and Holte, a realtor whose foundation has sponsored the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, will continue to serve in an advisory capacity. The board’s long-term goal is to operate a year-round shelter. For the second year in a row, it will provide food and shelter to the homeless at a facility at the Migrant camp on Southside Road from after Thanksgiving until mid-March.
A Jazz Under the Stars fundraiser has been planned for Sept 22. For information or invitations call 831-801-9531.
