The second quarter proved to be devastating for the San Benito boys basketball team late Thursday and it lost to Salinas on the road 60-49 in Tri-County Athletic League play.

The Balers continued their dominant start to the 2012 season, defeating North Salinas in both the girls and boys competitions on Friday.

San Benito High graduate Wade Jacobson was the starting right tackle at Washington State before injuring his back last year. Jacobson expects to play next year for the Cougars.

Salinas – The No. 6 seeded Gilroy Mustang softball team battled No. 11 seeded Mt. Pleasant Cardinals through five scoreless innings before the Mustangs' offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth to come away with the 4-0 victory over the Cardinals in the Central Coast Section Division I opening round playoff game at the Salinas Sports Complex Wednesday evening.
