Preps: Winter teams set to start league action
With winter break almost over, the San Benito High and Anzar High sports teams are revving up to begin their respective league seasons. The San Benito boys basketball team opens up Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division play at North Monterey County on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.

Golf: Brewer-Pozzi uses summer to improve
The days of high school athletes simply relaxing in the summer are long gone. Take incoming San Benito High sophomore Kami Brewer-Pozzi, for example. She recently attended an intensive five-day junior golf camp at Stanford University. The typical day for Pozzi included three to four hours of hitting balls, walking the course and finishing with non-golf games and activities that lasted until 8 or 9 p.m.
Swimming: 3 Balers take MBL titles
The San Benito High swimming team had three individual winners—Shannon Stephens, Zander Bonnet and Ryan Okubo—in last Saturday’s Monterey Bay League Championships at Hartnell College. Stephens won the 50 freestyle in 26.71 seconds, Bonnet won the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 1:00.45 and Okubo won the 500 free in 5:26.40.
