HOLLISTER
The county board Tuesday is set to hold an election for the chair position, with Supervisor Anthony Botelho the likely successor to Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz.
The San Benito County Board usually chooses the role on a rotational basis, meaning that the vice chairman traditionally is named to the position of chairman. If the supervisors follow the rotational system, Botelho would be the next in line.
“The board does hold an election,” said County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson. “The board does this on a rotational basis. Its a procedural thing that has been going on for a couple of years.”
Also on the agenda
The board will consider the appointments for the planning commission for Districts 1, 2 and 5. Supervisor Margie Barrios, who represents District 1, has nominated Jeff Culler as her commissioner.
Botelho, who represents District 2, has nominated Dan DeVries to continue on as his commissioner.
Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz, who represents District 5, selected Robbie Scattini to continue on as his appointment for commissioner.
The board also will consider appointments to the parks and recreation commission. Barrios has selected Don Kelley, Botelho has selected Jim West and De La Cruz has selected Estevan Guzman.
The board will move on whether to appoint Barbara Thompson as acting county counsel to take over for the retired Dennis LeClere. If approved, the effective date of this appointment will be Dec. 28. If not appointed to the acting position, Thompson will have the right to return to her previous position as assistant county counsel. LeClere retired after 2 1/2 years in the role.
Additionally, the board is set to hold a public hearing to consider a possible approval of the transfer of the Fremont School site to the State of California for the new San Benito County Courthouse project.
The meeting is at 9 a.m. in the board chambers, 481 Fourth St.
