The Hollister Police Department has arrested a Hollister man in connection with the hit-and-run accident in December.

Rigoberto Bonilla, 43, of Hollister, was arrested after a lengthy investigation by the police department, and a long review of the investigation by the district attorney’s office. Bonilla was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, just hours after a San Benito County judge signed off on his arrest warrant.

Bonilla is charged with suspected felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.

The arrest stems from a Dec. 4 incident, when police found a man dead in the middle of the road on the 800 block of Fourth Street.

The man, Alberto Preciado, 69, of Hollister, was found suffering from massive head trauma around 8 p.m.

An hour after the incident, a person called the police department and admitted to driving the vehicle.

The incident started a two-month investigation form the police department, which turned over information to the district attorney’s office in January, Capt. David Westrick said.

“We turned in a very detailed and lengthy report,” Westrick said. “The documentation on this one is rather lengthy.”
