The No. 1 doubles team of Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo wrapped up the regular season undefeated, and the San Benito girls tennis team wrapped up Tri-County Athletic League action Thursday with a 5-2 loss against host Notre Dame at the Chamisal Tennis and Fitness Club, although the news wasn’t all bad.

San Benito’s top doubles team in Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo defeated their opponents Ashley Pippin and Carmela Flores 6-0, 6-0 to finish the regular season undefeated at 17-0.

Head coach Ed Cecena said Glasspool and Triolo will more than likely be the top doubles seed at next week’s TCAL Tournament, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Salinas High.

Matches will begin at 2 p.m. on both days.

Each member school in the TCAL is allowed two singles players and two doubles teams to compete at the year-end tournament.

It will be a pair of singles players who will make up San Benito’s second doubles team next week, though. Sisters Kristina and Kelsey Slavich, who represented the Balers’ No. 2 and No. 3 singles players for much of the season, will team up as a doubles pairing at the TCAL Tournament.

Meanwhile, San Benito’s two allotted singles spots will be occupied by Audrey Marshall and Alex Garcia, who, most recently, have held the No. 1 and No. 4 singles positions for the Balers.

On Thursday, however, Notre Dame posted a singles sweep against the Balers.

Spirit Auburn Carpenter defeated Marshall 6-4, 2-6 and 10-4 in the third-set tiebreaker; Brenda Ponce beat Kristina Slavich 6-0, 7-5; Lexi Flores topped Kelsey Slavich 6-0, 6-3; and Kaitlyn Williams upended Garcia 6-1, 1-6 and 10-8 in the third-set tiebreaker.

In doubles, Notre Dame’s Virginia Eastwood and Megan Tuvera defeated Olivia Diaz and Anne Tobias 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, where as San Benito’s Amanda Alvarez and Gianna Brigantino returned the favor with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Celeste Rodriguez and Chloe Darsch.

The Balers are now 8-4 in the TCAL, 10-7 overall.
