Coming off a loss to Salinas last week, the San Benito High girls tennis team defeated visiting Gilroy 5-2 Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.
The Lady Balers, which are now 4-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 7-5 overall, have won three of their last four matches.
In singles, San Benito’s Rachel Smith defeated Meha Munshi when she came from behind to win 6-7, 6-2 and 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The Lady Balers lost their next two matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, however. Gilroy’s Alissa Castro beat Kristina Slavich 0-6, 6-1 and 10-7, while teammate Jennifer Kwong topped Alex Triolo 6-4, 6-2. San Benito picked up a key win at the 4-spot, though, when Audrey Marshall beat Mustang Sattea Khay 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, it was a straight-set sweep for the Lady Balers. Vanessa Casalegno and Chelsea Yoakum remained undefeated at 11-0 on the season when they beat Melanie Morelos and Elania Vasquez 6-3, 6-1. Erin Glasspool and Alex Garcia upended Ashley Gwynn and Joanne Lo 6-1, 6-2, while San Benito’s Stephanie Savin and Olivia Diaz defeated Lindsay Holt and Sami Holder 7-6, 6-3.
San Benito will host Notre Dame Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister. Match time is 4 p.m.
