Artists’ reception at Blak Sage: The San Benito Arts Council and sponsors will host an artists’ reception Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Blak Sage Gallery, 727 San Benito St. The show on display, “Women Artists of San Benito County” runs through runs through Nov. 30 and features the works of nine local artists. The reception will feature free food, music and drinks. The gallery is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m., Fridays, from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
‘La Bamba’ anniversary celebration and fundraiser: The Ritchie Valens Family and Mr. Ostenson’s Save the Music Drive are hosting a 25th anniversary celebration for the movie ‘La Bamba’ at Bolado Park, on Oct. 7, from noon to 7 p.m. The location is close to the original places in Hollister where some of the scenes were shot in the movie. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No host beer and wine for guests 21 and up. The event will feature music by the Rancho-Maze Band, the Scarlet Regiment Band, Mr. O’s Jazz Band, Shiloh, the Flashbacks, Sting Ray Anthony as Ritchie Valens backed by the Backyard Blues Band featuring Mario Valens (Ritchie’s brother) and special guests. Art show and reception at Mars Hill:The Hollister Art League will host an art show and reception at Mars Hill Coffeehouse, 610 San Benito St., Oct. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors will have a chance to meet local artists and purchase the new 2013 Hollister Art League calendar, which will celebrate 50 years in the art community. Northern California Renaissance Faire: The Northern California Renaissance Faire continues on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a Celtic rock concert set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. in Hollister. This weekend’s theme is Pirate Invasion weekend. Children 7 and under can meet the Queen and Captain Drake in the annual wee pirate costume contest at 2 p.m. at the Jack O’Tales Storybook Stage.
