The remnants of the fire at the Eagle Recycling plant continue to burn through the commercial building in the area as firefighters expect to remain at the plant into the night and possibly into Thursday, Calfire spokesman Jonathan Pangburn said.

No fires remain on the vegetation surrounding the plant at 2400 San Juan Highway, he said. On Tuesday, firefighters focused on the fire affecting vegetation and hundreds of cardboard bundles with fears it could spread within the more populated areas nearby.

“The winds were pushing the fire toward Hollister. It was a real worry,” Pangburn said.

The fire is still actively burning inside the building, and Calfire doesn’t know how much of the structure has been consumed, due to visibility.

“It’s very difficult to see – there is still a lot of smoke,” Pangburn said. “It’s still burning.”

Calfire on Tuesday had reported that upon arrival, the blaze went through three-fourths of the building.

The burning building has caused delays for investigators who are trying to find the cause of the fire.
