In response to Paul Grannis’ letter regarding Ignacio

In response to Paul Grannis’ letter regarding Ignacio Velazquez’s opinion column, I would like to remind Mr. Grannis that the Free Lance and the Pinnacle each employed Bob Valenzuela whose reputation for bombastic and controversial opinion writing is now legendary. Those who were subject to Valenzuela’s scrutiny were seldom pleased by the exposure and notoriety. Similarly, Velazquez is entitled to his opinion, and I have learned some interesting things about county supervisors that may otherwise not have been reported. It is up to the reader to determine the veracity of his column or, for that matter, not to read it at all. I don’t agree with Velazquez on some issues or Mr. Grannis either. In my view, subsequent to the defeat of Measure G, it is time for the county to make peace and move forward. But Mr. Grannis and vocal supporters of the present board of supervisors seem more interested in continuing provocative and divisive rhetoric in the press, which is their right. To my knowledge, Velazquez hasn’t opined as a guest columnist in several weeks. Let’s move on.
