Residents who want to order memorial tiles for deceased San Benito County veterans have more time than previously reported.
Paul Arballo, past commander of the Hollister Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 said Friday is the deadline to order the 6-by-12-inch black granite tiles – not 6-by-9-inch – for the first set to be engraved. It is not the final deadline to order tiles.
Orders will be taken “until we run out of room in front of the Veterans Building,” Arballo said.
The tiles, which cost $100 each, will be placed around the existing memorials in front of the building. Order forms are available at City Hall, the San Benito County and San Juan Bautista chambers of commerce and at Union Bank in Hollister, or by calling 638-0928.
Also, Arballo said, VFW Buddy Poppies will be distributed for donations – not sold – May 16, 24 and 25 at Safeway, Nob Hill, Albertson’s, Rite-Aid and the Hollister Post Office. Donations from the poppies benefit disabled veterans and the families of deceased veterans.
