In the first of two non-league games, the San Benito girls volleyball team struggled with its offense in a 3-1 home loss to Aptos on Tuesday.

The loss followed an impressive 3-2 showing at the Milpitas Spikefest I on Saturday.

San Benito opened the match with a 25-23 loss in the first set. The Balers, behind Raelynn Heredia and Ellie Burley, took the second set with a 25-19 victory. But that was all the Balers could muster against a young Aptos team.

The Balers dropped the match’s final two sets 25-18 and 25-22.

“It was a little bit of a disappointment,” head coach Dean Askanas said. “Our offense was a little bit iffy. Our hitting was just a little bit off.”

Over the weekend, San Benito swept Independence, Mount Madonna School and Saint Ignatius College Prep in two sets. The Balers, though, did lose to Amador Valley and Woodside to finish the tournament with a 3-2 record.

San Benito (3-3) will travel to Harbor at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
