Editor,
Our COG’s Directors’ proposed Memorandum of Understanding with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority for inter-county compensation for negative consequences from VTA’s transport decisions has already been answered.
San Benito County gets back approximately 11 cents for each dollar that we send to Sacramento, where the Legislature redistributes the donor counties’ money to the donee counties’ residents like San Benito County. For example, San Franciso’s Metropolitan Transit Authority riders each receive more than $422,000 annually. VTA’s profligate spenders use our money to fund the BART folly, Lite Rail (heavy socialism) and other radical socialist public transit boondoggles.
AMBAG, MTC, and the other MPOs feast off this growing wealth transfer, which is also funded by hobbling future generations with unsustainable debt burdens in the trillions. VTA’s policy makers sacrifice the safety of motorists in their county and ours in the futile hope of making Karl Marx’s theory of government work here.
VTA could have improved the Dan Pacheco Y years ago. The money they waste on Lite Rail in one day would pay for it. Remember when VTA said they didn’t have enough money to construct median barriers on US 101 between Gilroy and Morgan Hill, while that same month they transferred $52 million to their employees’ pension plans? And thanks to our radical socialist Legislature, they are using SBC’s tax dollars (and that of 36 other rural counties) to do their wasteful transit.
This will continue to worsen as the radical socialists in our Legislature enact more Marxist-Leninist transit, like Assemblyman Simon Salinas’ AB-765, which is now sitting on the governor’s desk awaiting his signature. With the socialists in control in the Legislature, it will be a cold day in Hell before we see rural counties become donees. Caveat Viator!
