Are the Black Friday discounts worth it when weighed against dealing with the mass of holiday shoppers out that day?
Nants Foley: “I personally hate Black Friday and avoid shopping then. Bah, Humbug.”
Mary Zanger: “No. I prefer to spend time with my family especially during holidays. It seems that some people are easily brainwashed by advertising, which is the propaganda of consumerism. An authentic Thanksgiving would be to reacquaint with and understand each other and rejoice in the joy of human connectedness.”
Cesar Flores: “No! In the spirit of the season we should all be thankful for what we have. Black Friday is the ‘bait’ for the ‘feeding frenzy’ for material things during what used to be a ‘spiritual season’ for many. We must celebrate the ‘Spirit’ which brings peace and harmony into our lives.”
Ruth Erickson: “When many of the big box stores are enticing shoppers to come and buy for the whole Black Friday week, why get in line and endure the weather, crowds, etc.? Besides you can often get better bargains a couple of weeks before Christmas. Give me a couple of extra hours in bed on Black Friday and forget so-called bargains which can be bought online or on a non-Black Friday day!”
