More than an inch of rain fell on Hollister Thursday, and part of it found its way into the city’s finance department, located in the City Hall basement.

Finance department employees called Hollister Public Works, which sent a crew to siphon water from the office and the base of the steps and to clear drain pipes.

Barbara Mulholland, the city’s finance director, said Public Works also raised the department’s mainframe computer off the floor with 2-by-4s to prevent water that entered the office from damaging it.
