The county needs to construct a bypass road before a busy portion of Nash Road closes.

On Tuesday, county supervisors unanimously approved an interagency agreement relating to the closure of Nash Road and the Regional Park project. The interagency agreement was previously approved by both the San Benito High School District and Hollister City Council.

County staff said the bypass road needs to be constructed and opened to the public before the closure goes into effect.

“Right now, the county’s engineering firm is designing the access road and preparing a legal description for easement,” Deputy County Counsel Shirley Murphy said in an email to the Free Lance. “Once that is done, the county will go through the bidding process and award a construction contract.”

County Capital Program Manager Adam Goldstone said that the goal is to have the road completed by August 2018, but it’s hard to say when construction would start at this point.
