A wild fire started in eastern San Benito County at about 5 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Panoche and Little Panoche roads, according to Calfire. It was contained by Saturday night to 10 acres.

This area is east of Paicines and southwest of Firebaugh in Fresno County. It was fully contained by about 9 p.m. There were five fire engines, an air tactical observation plane (air attack), four air tankers, a helicopter, a dozer, two hand crews, a chief officer/incident commander, and a fire investigator on scene. There were a total of about 68 firefighters fighting the fire. The air tankers have retardant surrounding the perimeter of the fire, and engine companies have hoselays in place.

Calfire wants to remind the public that defensible space can help save property and lives. Maintaining 100 feet of clearance around your structure allows firefighters to defend your property in the event of a wildfire.
