As a person who grew up in San Benito County, I yearn for those
days when Hollister was younger. Public officials who were elected
to serve our city and county were always accepted and treated with
respect whether they were our individual choice or not. Most of us
felt that those elected officials would work toward what was best
for the people of our area. There was no showing of public
animosity such as we are experiencing today. The lawsuits, recalls,
acts of violence, etc., toward elected officials is disgusting.

As a person who grew up in San Benito County, I yearn for those days when Hollister was younger. Public officials who were elected to serve our city and county were always accepted and treated with respect whether they were our individual choice or not. Most of us felt that those elected officials would work toward what was best for the people of our area. There was no showing of public animosity such as we are experiencing today. The lawsuits, recalls, acts of violence, etc., toward elected officials is disgusting.

For a county that is in such financial trouble, it is disgraceful that these events are occurring and depleting our financial resources. We are wasting money that should be used to improve our quality of life, health and happiness.

Now there is a possibility that our county population may be “ripped off” by a casino being built in our area! Thanks to James E. Marino of Morgan Hill who wrote a letter to the editor (Some info about ‘sovereign immunity,’ Nov. 13-15) and “opening our eyes” again to what we can expect if a casino is built in our county.
