The Hollister Youth Alliance is seeking $200,000 in outside grant funding for restoration of Dunne Park near downtown Hollister.

County supervisors today officially supported the effort, a partnership of the HYA, First 5 San Benito, the San Benito Food Bank and the City of Hollister, according to a county staff report.

The $200,000 grant would go toward restoration of the oldest park in the city at Sixth and West streets. The agenda item, submitted by Supervisor Pat Loe, noted how Dunne Park is surrounded primarily by a Hispanic population often at risk for poverty-related ailments such as obesity and diabetes.

If allocated, the funds would go toward developing an action plan with hopes of increasing physical activity and social cohesiveness while increasing safety, according to the county staff report.

Board members approved the resolution in a 5-0 vote.
