Hollister Police arrested an 18-year-old local man for possession of drugs and a firearm after he attempted to sneak away from an officer who noticed him driving in a suspicious manner, according to authorities.

About 10:45pm March 2, Hollister Police Officer Nick Rudolfs was on patrol in the area of Powell and A streets when he saw a vehicle with no headlights or taillights, reads a press release from Hollister PD. As the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle sped away.

Rudolfs found the car abandoned on Glenmore Street. The driver had run away from the vehicle and left a door open, police said. During the investigation, the officer found a loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine inside the vehicle. The magazine had a 31-round capacity. Also found in the vehicle were cocaine, marijuana and items used to sell drugs.

The officer determined that Nathan Parra, 18, of Hollister, had been driving the vehicle, police said. Parra was contacted and arrested. He was booked at the county jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of controlled substances for sale, transporting controlled substances for sale and obstruction.
