Around the Water Cooler

Do you have a problem with President Obama taking a “selfie” cell phone picture at Nelson Mandela’s memorial?
Marty Richman: “No, President Obama was just reflecting the values and traits of many of the entitled members of his generation; inconsiderate, self-absorbed, and tasteless. They are so bad that they can make royalty look good – and that takes some doing.”
Nants Foley “I would have had more of a problem if he had tried signing for the deaf! I did think it was in bad taste, however.”
Ruth Erickson: “Yes, I think it was inappropriate and childish considering he represents the entire nation of the USA.”
Richard Place: “It has to be a better selfie then Congressman Weiner took.”
Jim West: “No, if I could have attended I sure as hell would have taken a ‘selfie.’”
Richard Herrera: “I do not. Besides, we have more important issues to discuss.”
Mary Zanger: “Yes, the problem is that Obama might not have been the picture taker. We do not know the context of the situation when the memorial service portrayed a celebratory mood of a grateful people. The life of Nelson Mandela looms beyond the microscopic lens of a ‘selfie’ incident. Mandela’s accomplishment of uniting all of South Africans needs emulation.”
