Hollister police and many other regional agencies conducted a gang sweep Friday and arrested seven people, according to an announcement from police.

A CalGRIP grant funded the operation, with the goal of curtailing gang activity and violence in Hollister. Police noted that they made contact with 40 people and arrested seven, with offenses including parole/probation violations, resisting arrest and outstanding warrants, according to police.

According to the statement, Hollister police worked with officers from the South Monterey County Four Cities for Peace initiative, (Soledad, Greenfield, King City, Gonzales) Del Rey Oaks Police, San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, San Benito County Probation Department, California State Parole Agency, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

In the past year Hollister police has participated in six similar CalGRIP operations held in South Monterey County and sponsored by the Four Cities for Peace “in the hopes that such joint operations would foster a relationship of cooperation and support in the ongoing fight against gang violence,” according to the HPD.
