During the West Coast Conference golf championship at San Juan Oaks Golf Club this week, St. Mary’s dominated the men’s field, taking the title by nine strokes over second-place San Francisco. It was the first golfing championship for the school. Overall, the Gaels shot 20-under through three rounds.
On the women’s side, Pepperdine won its 11th consecutive championship carding a 47-over par during the three-round championship. The Waves defeated San Francisco by seven strokes.
Individually, St. Mary’s Ben Geyer won the individual championship — carding a 9-under par — beating San Diego’s Alex Ching by one stroke. Geyer won the tournament entering the final round in fifth place.
For the women, Gonzaga’s Victoria Fallgren defeated Seattle’s Caitlin McCleary in a one-hole playoff after both golfers finished the tournament 8-over. Fallgren carded a birdie on the ninth hole — and first playoff hole — to clinch the title. It was the first individual championship for Gonzaga.
