After winning its seventh-straight Central Coast Section Division I title Saturday with a 8-3 win over Carlmont, the San Benito softball team was honored with nine Tri-County Athletic League awards including Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher.
The Balers’ Ellie Burley was awarded the league’s MVP after hitting lead-off for the Balers. In the CCS championship game, Burley set the table for the Balers, going 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
San Benito pitcher Megan Sabbatini won the league’s top pitching award as well. She led the Balers to 12 shutout wins, including two in the postseason. She won the final game of the season for San Benito, coming in to record the final out after pitching the game’s first four innings.
First baseman Taylor Fabing, second baseman Brittani Newman and catcher Kim Sparrer were honored with All-TCAL first team awards.
Freshman Adriana Ibarra and outfielder Brittani Sparrer were named to the All-TCAL second team. Cassidy Heen was an honorable mention.
Senior Mia Vodanovich was named to the Sportsmanship Team.
SBHS Baseball
With a seven straight TCAL title, the baseball team was once again honored with multiple league awards.
Junior catcher Jacob Tonascia was named as the league’s Most Valuable Player with a .309 batting average during league play. He was among the league leaders in doubles – with seven – and RBIs – with 30.
San Benito’s Anthony Ocampo shared the league’s Most Valuable Pitcher award with Salinas’ Colby Genasci. As the Balers’ No. 1 starter, Ocampo finished the league year with a 0.55 earned run average, allowing three earned runs in 38 and 1-3 innings.
First baseman Jose Guzman, pitcher Jake Cabral, center fielder Josh George, Tonascia and Ocampo were named to the All-TCAL first team as well.
Third baseman Craig Slibsager, shortstop Michael Breen, second baseman Marcus Sabatte, outfielder Ryan Jacob and pitcher Skyler Fuss were named to the All-TCAL second team.
San Benito honorable mentions included Daniel Gonzales and Cody Gessel.
