If you’re green on green, there’s a new TV show you might want to check out that’s hosted by San Benito County residents.

“Going Green” is a monthly show, developed by the green business committee of the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, which promotes messages related to environmental sustainability and technology, said David Huboi, chairman of the green committee and one of three hosts for the program.

There is one new episode a month and they appear on cable channels 17 and 20 run by Community Media Access Partnership based in Gilroy. Huboi, a Hollister architect, is joined in hosting the show by chamber President/CEO Jessica French and Shawn Novack from the county water association. The latest episode was set for taping Thursday, while a schedule of its airing throughout each month is on CMAP’s website.

Huboi explained how there are four guests on each episode. French opens each show by discussing the goals of the series, and the correlating green business committee, while the hosts move on to interview the varying guests in the Gilroy studio.

“Our mission is to provide education and assistance to members, businesses, on how they can adopt or embrace sustainable business practices,” Huboi said, noting how viewers can learn about new practices and policies, such as state legislation or altered requirements.

He recalled some of the guests through five episodes, such as Gavilan College Trustee/New Urbanism guru Tony Ruiz and an official from a local organic seed company. The sixth episode this month will feature Vision San Benito Director Julie Morris, he said.

Huboi also enjoys gaining experience in front of a camera. He noted how he had not needed any “retakes” to this point. He used to read from a clipboard, but now he uses a cheat sheet, only when needed.

“I’ve improved,” he said. “There’s always a ways to go.”

For the chamber, the committee and TV show’s launch came after the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program deemed the organization a green business, French said.

“We thought it would be a good idea to get the word out to businesses and individuals,” said French, adding how the chamber also includes a monthly “green” article in its newsletter.
