Fightin’ on the Faultline, an event promoters say is the
first-ever mixed martial arts event to come to Hollister, will be
held on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Building, located at 649
San Benito Street.
The championship MMA series will feature 14 bouts, including a
main event between Hollister’s Jared Hess and Sergio Machado.
Doors open to the event at 5 p.m., with the fights set to begin
at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40, and can be purchased at Main Street
Kickboxing in Hollister or at Big Joe’s BBQ in Salinas. For more

YMCA announces new programs

The YMCA of San Benito County recently announced the start of three programs, including T-ball, preschool basketball and middle school sports for sixth- to eighth-grade students at Maze, Gabilan Hills and Calaveras middle schools.

The YMCA will be offering girls volleyball and boys flag football at Maze; girls soccer and boys basketball at Gabilan Hills; and girls soccer and boys basketball at Calaveras.

All sports start the week of Jan. 10, and sign-ups will be held at the YMCA, located at 351 Tres Pinos Road, Suite A-201 in Hollister.

The YMCA is offering afterschool sports with Maze, Gabilan Hills and Calaveras after the Hollister School District recently announced it would cut middle school sports.

The YMCA is also offering a school-against-school T-ball program for six elementary schools within the Hollister School District. The program will also begin the week of Jan. 10.

Starting Saturday, Jan. 15, the YMCA will be running preschool basketball as well for players aged 2.5 to 5 years old.
