Hollister City Council members Monday will discuss the possibility that state might dissolve the redevelopment agency.

Council members, acting as the redevelopment agency board, are set to meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St. According to the agenda, they will discuss possible steps to take in light of Gov. Jerry Brown’s recommendation to dissolve the 400 or so RDAs throughout California, including Hollister’s.

It is part of a special meeting at which council members will discuss the governor’s proposal while also getting an oral report on the projected budget and planned projects for the next five years – an “implementation plan” that is a requirement of the state.

The governor’s plan would take property tax revenue that now goes to redevelopment agencies and shift it to local services. City officials are unsure how much of that revenue would come back to cities in which it was generated – and with what strings attached – and how much would be kept by the state.

If the Hollister RDA were eliminated, projects such as the development of the former Leatherback site along McCray Street and Prospect Avenue as well as further development of the 400 block project at the corner of San Benito and Fourth streets downtown could be stalled.
