“That’s huge. When we knock down open shots, it really helps our confidence,” San Benito head coach David Kaplansky said.
“When we’re knocking those down, it carries over to the rest of the team, the defense, the energy, everything.”
The defense was especially on for the Balers Tuesday night. Salinas was unable to reach double-digit point totals in any quarter, and were instead limited to just four points apiece in the second, third and fourth stanzas.
And the turnovers only led to extra possessions for San Benito.
“We played really good defense in the first half and did a great job of manning them,” said Kaplansky, who began to rotate in his entire team as the game progressed.
San Benito led 36-11 heading into the final period.
“I felt all the girls played well tonight,” he said.
The win improves San Benito to 3-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 11-6 overall, while the Cowboys fall to 0-4 in the TCAL and 4-11 overall.
