There is an array of work under way at several parks, in the
city and county jurisdiction. Hollister, through a grant from
Integrated Waste Management, has or is installing recycled rubber
material to replace sand and tan bark at six city parks. In some of
the locations, it has involved the pouring of nearly 60 tons of
recycled content from Hollister-based West Coast Rubber
Recycling.

That work is done at Hernandez, Veterans Memorial (city and county), Tony Aguirre, Frank Klauer, Valley View and Dunne parks. The only one left to finish is Las Brisas Park, said Marcelo Orta, a public works official. The city’s deadline for finishing the work is March 30, he said. Weather is the only holdup.

“We need one clear day to remove all of the sand,” he said. “Once we remove all that, we prep the area and lay down the tires.”
