Mathew D. Figone graduates basic
Air Force Airman Mathew D. Figone graduated from basic military
training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that
included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force
core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and
skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an
associate degree in applied science degree through the Community
College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Renee Perales, of Fairhaven Drive, in
Hollister, and Matt Figone of Gilroy.
Figone graduated in 2009 from San Benito High School,
Hollister.

Margaret Prewett named Cowbelle of the year

The San Benito county Cattlewomen named Margaret Prewett the 2010 San Benito County Cowbelle of the Year.

Prewett has been an active member of the San Benito County Cattlewomen for six years. As a member of the Cattlewomen, she has chaired and served on many committees include: Blood Bank, Budget, Ag in the Classroom, Fair Booth, Livestock Judging and Heritage Dinner. She served as secretary from 2004 to 2010. She is now the vice president for the 2010-11 term.

Prewett was raised in Santa Maria. While she was growing up she was involved in F-H with sewing and crafts as her favorite projects. She was also an active member of the Campfire Girls and Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed singing and joined a quartet called Sweet Adeline’s. She performed in the church choir.

After finishing her education at Alan Hancock Junior College, she became a bus driver with the school district, until she retired in 2004 to move to San Benito County. Here she has helped out with the family cattle ranch operation.

Her hobbies include crocheting, needlepoint, toll painting, cooking, canning and baking, which she enjoys doing with her cats Sqeekers and Peachers.
