City chops down weeds in parking lot
The City of Hollister, which enforces overgrown, unpleasant weeds on private properties, had its own overgrowth problem in a public parking lot off Sixth Street near San Benito Street.
An array of weed patches had sprouted in the parking lot and became particularly visible earlier this month. Some of the weeds had grown as tall as an average adolescent and were climbing alongside the neighboring buildings where cars park. There were other, smaller patches in the same lot as well.
But city public works crews have taken care of the problem. The parking lot has been cleared of all weeds following questions about it from the Pinnacle.
Meanwhile, the city has moved ahead on its annual weed abatement program by informing more than 300 property owners they must cut their vegetation or they will be billed for the work.
