Harrison entered not guilty pleas Monday to three charges – driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing bodily injury to any person other than the driver, driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence while having 0.08 percent or more blood alcohol level. The charges stem from an April 7 collision on state Highway 73 that injured two.
The former Olympic sprinter awaits a May 16 pretrial conference, which could result in establishing a jury trial start date, Emami said.
On the night of April 7, California Highway Patrol Officer Devon Boatman said officers at the scene established that Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, reached speeds of 80 to 85 mph as he attempted to make a lane change from the center lane into the right lane at 8:59 p.m. His blood alcohol content at the time of the accident measured twice the legal limit at .16, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
Harrison was in Southern California with an assistant coach and four GHS sprinters for a track meet. No students were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Harrison, 37, is represented by public defender Justin Glenn, while Monique Elliot is the district attorney’s representative, said Carole Levitzky, public information officer for the Orange County Superior Court.
