Investigators are calling last week’s Nash Road apartment building fire “suspicious” with a cause “undetermined” at this time, said the Hollister fire marshal, Capt. Mike O’Connor.

The fire occurred June 15 at the Nash Road Apartments in the 900 block of Nash Road, about six blocks east of San Benito High School. It affected one unit in an apartment building that has four units.

The origin of the fire was in a bedroom on the second level of the unit, said O’Connor, noting how the home has two bedrooms and a bathroom.

Two adults were living in the unit, he said.

O’Connor called the fire suspicious and said the two residents of the home are “not at this time suspects or possible suspects.”

“We just can’t find a definite cause for the fire,” he said. “From information gathered at the origin of the fire, there’s no reason for the fire to be there.”

O’Connor said investigators had interviewed the two residents and other neighbors in the area.

“There’s something missing that we don’t know.”
