Hanging tree branch impedes sidewalk on Sixth Street

You might want to duck your head while walking along Sixth Street near the entrance to the Mars Hill coffee shop downtown.

That is because there has been a hanging tree branch over the sidewalk for more than a week on one of the city’s trees just off of San Benito Street.

City of Hollister’s Public Works Department official Marcelo Orta has been made aware of the situation. The city routinely addresses such overhanging branches when they become aware of them. Orta responded in an email saying the city has hired a seasonal employee with tree-trimming experience. “We started Low-limb trimming, stop sign blockage and intersection visibility clearance,” he wrote. “We are concentrating on the downtown business areas and will be moving onto heavy traffic streets then to neighbor trees.” He said the city will address the Sixth Street limb.
