Lots of horse-related activities took place last weekend at Bolado Park. The stock horse classes were held last Friday night and Dawson Bell was one of the big winners of the weekend. Dawson won both of the classes he was entered in on his favorite mount John Wayne. The junior rodeo was held on Saturday which was a big success. The day began at 9 a.m. and lasted until late in the afternoon. Some of those competing there included Mikael Bernadette and Warren Enz, Taylor and Tatum Hurley, Brody Sans, Cash Robinson, Wyatt Naccarrato, Dawson and Lila Bell, Lacey and Jake Bourdet, Wacey Barrington, Billy and Weston Aviles, Cheyenne Rey, Tristan Schmidt, Tristan Reid, Casey Mathis, Blair Brown, Averie Hubbel, Blair Strohn and Brett and Emery Pura, just to name a few. The ranch rodeo was held on Sunday and the big winners there included Eric Isaacson as the Open All-Around Champion and South County’s own Stacey Schmidt as the Ladies All-Around Champion.
The high school rodeo season is officially under way. District 4 hosted its first rodeo of the season last Sunday at the Posse Grounds in Salinas. Local competitors included Tommy and Megan Ford, Taylor and Twyster Hurley, Lacey Bourdet, Blair Strohn, Cash Robinson, Mikael Bernadette and Warren Enz, Blair Brown, and Brody Sans. Congratulations to Cash and Brody on winning both go rounds and the average in the team roping – looks like all that practice has been paying off!
The San Benito County Cattlewomen’s Association will be hosting their sixth Annual Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon on Oct. 23, at the San Juan Oaks Golf and Country Club. John and Tina Bourdet of Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm hosted a nature walk last winter at the Christmas tree farm. After the walk, participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire that would qualify them for a chance to win a christmas tree this year. They just recently held the drawing for the tree certificates and the winners included: Jake Bourdet, of Hollister, Cheyenne Rice, of King City, Chelsea Dilaura, of Hollister, Kathi Bilyk, of Gilroy and Robert Belscher Anderson, of Hollister. Each of them will receive a gift certificate for a free Christmas tree this year at Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm in Hollister. Johh and Tina are already gearing up for another fun year at the farm which will open up the day after Thanksgiving. Congratulations to all the winners.
