took another hit Tuesday. The Athletic Department announced the

Costa College due to the behavior of some players at a recent party
in Gilroy where alcohol was served to minors and police officers
were called because of a reported fight and alleged gun shot,

In an already rough season for the Gavilan College football team took another hit Tuesday. The Athletic Department announced the Rams have forfeited Saturday’s upcoming contest against Contra Costa College due to the behavior of some players at a recent party in Gilroy where alcohol was served to minors and police officers were called because of a reported fight and alleged gun shot, Gavilan College Director of Public Information Jan Bernstein-Chargin said.
One player was arrested, Bernstein-Chargin said. She did not give a name.
“The Gavilan College Athletic Department, led by Athletic Director Ron Hannon, made a thorough investigation and decided on the one-game suspension,” Bernstein-Chargin said. “All of the players were in violation of the Gavilan College Code of Conduct, which all athletes sign.
“We are very disappointed and relieved that nobody at the party was injured. We hope that after this the team can regroup and move on to make the season the best it can at this point.”
The Code of Conduct states, among other points of emphasis that “student-athletes at Gavilan College are expected to represent themselves, their team and the College with honesty, integrity, and character whether it be academically, athletically or socially.”
The document also lines areas where student-athletes would be in violation, such as arrest for any crime, harassment directed toward any person or group, hazing, lewd or obscene behavior, use/possession of chewing tobacco or other tobacco products, possession of illegal drugs and/or alcohol, including related paraphernalia, fighting, theft or burglary, gambling or bribery and any conduct that is detrimental to Gavilan College or Rams Athletics. All are grounds for a one-GAME suspension or dismissal from the team depending on “the severity of the misconduct.”
The Rams, under first-year head coach Spencer Gilford, went winless through their non-conference schedule.
